Program Information

Core:  The Dental Assisting Program consists of 1230 hours, which consists of 90 hours of Health Science Education Core, (OCP-A), and 1140 hours of
          Dental Assisting coursework (OCP-B).
 
Course Description:  The Dental Assisting Student is trained in subject areas such as history, ethics, and goals of the dental profession.  Head and Neck
    Anatomy and Physiology, Tooth Morphology, and Dental Radiology are also taught.  The student will have hands on learning experience in our onsite
    dental lab, as well and externing in the different specialty dental offices in the area. There they will have the opportunity to find out what job opportunities
    and what area of a dental practice they would like to pursue.
 
    Upon graduating from the FCTC Dental Assisting Program the student will be able to perform different types of patient care, office and laboratory
    duties.  The student will be able to assist the dentist and other dental auxiliary to provide more efficient dental treatment.
 
Program Goal:  The goal of the Dental Assisting Program is to provide a competency-based program to students, with the opportunity to prepare them for
    entry-level positions in the dental office and to prepare them to pass the Dental Assisting National Board Exam (DANB).  The program will provide the
    dental community with competent employees.
